Innovative Teaching Methods in British Curriculum Schools

By June 6, 2024No Comments

When asked what their favorite subject is, a typical answer would be based on the subject they knew the best about or that got them good grades. If we dig deeper, we will discover that one of the significant reasons that subject holds a special place in our hearts is that it was taught in the best way possible. The way one receives information can significantly affect one’s interest. Often, educators use different teaching methods to make it possible. These methods can nurture and shape young minds into the bright future that every child deserves.

In a rapidly evolving world of education, British curriculum schools are the few schools that have managed to redefine education and make it what it is today. Through a blend of pedagogical innovations, technological integrations, and a commitment to engage students, British schools can create a learning environment that focuses on multiple facets of a child’s development. Their main goal is to nurture students’ curiosity and critical thinking by helping them develop lifelong learning skills through holistic development.

Before we discuss a few teaching methods incorporated into the British curriculum, let’s first understand what teaching methods are and how they can impact students.

TEACHING METHODS
Teaching methods are strategies teachers and employers use to impart knowledge and skills to students. They include a variety of techniques and tools. Teaching methods play an essential role in a student’s life, as they can help them understand concepts and skills in different subjects, be it math or artificial intelligence.

The world we live in is digital, from how we navigate to reach our destination to how we communicate with others. As a result, the current generation of students has shorter retention spans compared to what they used to have a decade ago. By choosing an appropriate teaching method, not only will students understand the concepts clearly, but these methods will also generate curiosity in them.

Now, let’s see a few examples of teaching methods and how they can generate curiosity and encouragement in students.

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION
If used properly, technology is one such addition as a teaching method that can push students in the right direction.

Interactive whiteboards, educational software, and tablets are a few tools that can be used to introduce different concepts and skills.
Not only this, but there are also platforms like Kahoot! and Quizlet that add the angle of gamification to academics, making it more fun and competitive.

INDIVIDUAL FOCUS
Even though every student studies the same curriculum, there are times when one might need more attention in a subject while someone else might be acing it. So, to ensure that every aspect is taken care of, the British curriculum focuses on individual care.

This includes providing specific feedback to the students and giving them extra classes to ensure their weaknesses and doubts are appropriately cleared.

This not only helps boost students’ confidence but also pushes them towards the skillset that resonates with them the most.

For example, if a student has good reading abilities but is struggling with writing skills, the teachers will offer additional support outside of their regular classes to bring the student up to the mark.

Introducing methods like this gives every student a chance to thrive pretty and equally.

COLLABORATIVE LEARNING
There is no learning like group learning. As we grow up, we realize the importance of working in a group or a collaboration supersedes any intellectual understanding one might have. Learning to work with all kinds of people is a skill that should be developed from the early years. By introducing group work, debates, and team exercises, there is a sense of collaboration, which a school like Oasis believed in implementing from the beginning.

Examples include group projects where students work together and do the research work on the topic and then present it as well. Debates are a great way to invoke critical thinking and encourage public speaking amongst them.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Experiential learning is the opposite of theoretical learning. Not only that, its effect is also opposite to what theory does to students. A student will learn more about how a Matisse painting has affected the current times by visiting a museum rather than just reading about it in a book.

Field trips, internships, or simulations help students understand the concept deeply and as a result, retention power increases naturally.

CASE STUDIES
We will now cover examples that fit well with the approach of innovative teaching methods:

So, instead of the usual lectures, teachers make videos explaining all the essential stuff related to the subject. Then, they tell the students to watch these videos at home. The fun part is that when the students come to class, they dive straight into solving problems, chatting with classmates, and getting one-on-one help from the teachers. Students are way more interested in the concept; they understand it better, and their grades improve with time.

British-curriculum schools in India are way ahead of any other school in India. They are more focused on getting today’s children to become the future of India by providing the best education. The British Curriculum focuses on revolutionizing education and preparing students for success in an ever-changing world. By embracing innovative teaching methods, teachers enhance student engagement and learning outcomes and inspire a lifelong passion for learning.
